Frequently asked questions

What is a genomic test?
A genomic test examines the activity of genes within a sample to better understand how a cancer may grow and spread. It helps inform treatment planning for people diagnosed with cancer. The OncoExTra test analyzes both DNA and RNA to get a full picture of your individual tumor.
Who may benefit from the OncoExtra test?
The OncoExTra test can be used for patients with cancer that is advanced, metastatic, unresponsive to treatment, recurrent, rare, or aggressive.
Does OncoExTra replace other lab tests?
The OncoExTra test is an additional tool that can help you and your doctor decide on the best treatment plan for you. It does not replace lab tests your doctors may need you to have in order to diagnose, stage, or otherwise evaluate your cancer.
How long will it take to get my results?
Most OncoExTra test results are available within 14 days from the time Exact Sciences receives both your tumor and blood samples. We send the results to your doctor, who will discuss them with you and answer any questions you may have.
Is the OncoExtra test covered by insurance?
All patients with Medicare and many patients with commercial insurance who meet certain eligibility criteria are covered for testing. Private insurance coverage varies, so it’s a good idea to check with your insurance carrier. Our Customer Service is here to help patients understand and navigate the insurance and billing process as well as assist with prior authorizations, appealing denied claims, and providing flexible payment options when necessary.
