Exact Sciences Announces $275,000 in Forward Spirit Community Recovery Sponsorships

MADISON, Wis. – Nov. 9, 2020 – In response to the human and financial challenges posed by COVID-19, and in support of those working to build a healthier, more just society, Exact Sciences today announced $275,000 in “Forward Spirit” community recovery sponsorships. The sponsorships will help organizations cover shortfalls caused by the pandemic and adapt to rapidly changing needs.

Exact Sciences is a leading provider of cancer screening and diagnostic tests. In the community, it is working to expand opportunity, empower individuals, and improve health. Approximately two-thirds of Exact Sciences’ more than 4,000 employees work in southcentral Wisconsin.

“Forward Spirit continues Exact Sciences’ tradition of investing in the people and places where we work,” said Kevin Conroy, chairman and CEO of Exact Sciences. “The creativity and dedication of the nonprofit community during this pandemic is inspirational. We hope these sponsorships provide the encouragement and funds these organizations need to dream big and keep pushing forward.”

The work of these nonprofit organizations and others is more important than ever. According to Georgetown University’s Center on Education and the Workforce, job losses resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic reached 23 million in May. These losses disproportionately affect those already affected by racial, economic, and health disparities.

The 2020 Forward Spirit sponsorship recipients are:

Access Community Health Centers (Madison, Wis.)
Access Community Health Centers provides medical, dental, behavioral health, and other support services to underserved individuals and families throughout southern Wisconsin.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County (Madison, Wis.)
By pairing kids with mentors, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County strengthens formal and informal community bonds, laying the groundwork for individual success and more inclusive communities.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County (Madison, Wis.)
Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County helps families get back to work and students adjust to changing school schedules, all while continuing to provide its signature blend of programming that helps build healthy habits and lifelong relationships.

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (Redwood City and East Palo Alto, Calif.)
Located near Exact Sciences’ Redwood City, California office, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula provides more than 2,000 nutritious, to-go meals each night to individuals coping with pandemic-related job loss and other challenges.

Cook It Forward (Madison, Wis.)
A win-win, Cook It Forward keeps restaurant workers employed during the pandemic by directing their talents into preparing meals for the food insecure.

Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness (Madison, Wis.)
The Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness works to eliminate health disparities and other barriers impacting Black women and girls’ lives through programming, support, and advocacy.

Foundation for Madison’s Public Schools (Madison, Wis.)
During a schoolyear unlike any other, the Foundation for Madison’s Public Schools is providing teachers and students with the resources they need to achieve academic success

Goodman Community Center (Madison, Wis.)
A fixture on Madison’s east side, Goodman Community Center provides programs and services for individuals and families of all ages and backgrounds. Its offerings include a food pantry, after-school programming, and social activities for older adults.

Madison Children’s Museum (Madison, Wis.)
Temporarily closed due to COVID-19, the museum is otherwise a bustling center of activity, with exhibitions and programs that encourage learning and exploration.

Meadowood Health Partnership (Madison, Wis.)
Located near Exact Sciences’ Discovery Campus on the near west side of Madison, Meadowood Health Partnership provides education and support services to advance healthy families and social stability.

Overture Center for the Arts (Madison, Wis.)
A cultural hub in downtown Madison, Overture Center’s doors are temporarily closed due to COVID-19, but its work continues. The staff is moving arts and education programming online, reinventing how its offerings are delivered while maintaining the experiences and cultural exchange for which it is known.

Rebalanced-Life Wellness Association – Men’s Health & Education Center (Madison, Wis.)
From its location inside Madison’s largest Black barbershop, JP Hair Design, the Men’s Health and Education Center informs men about the importance of health and wellness, connects them to needed services, and works to remove barriers to care.

Urban League of Greater Madison (Madison, Wis.)
A champion of positive change for more than 50 years, the Urban League is expanding employment opportunities and guiding families through the pandemic – all while continuing to serve as a leading voice for social justice and positive change.
