IT Waste Reduction Efforts

Exact Sciences uses a variety of methods to reduce the environmental impact of the technology we use every day.

We recycle IT equipment that can no longer be used by partnering with a vendor to ensure it is either refurbished for resale or responsibly recycled. Since 2015, we have diverted over 36,000 pounds of material from landfills. This effort has prevented 306 tons of carbon emissions — equivalent to removing 187 passenger cars from the road for one year.

Exact Sciences also uses PaperCut, a printer control program that reduces unnecessary print jobs and uses less toner. In 2019 alone, we prevented more than 22,000 unnecessary print jobs. The program saved the equivalent of 18 trees and 1923 kilograms of carbon dioxide that would normally be emitted during paper production.
