Each week, PGA TOUR Champions golfers play with a lot riding on the line. For Exact Sciences-sponsored athlete Jerry Kelly, the stakes were even higher during the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
Exact Sciences and the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation (VLCF) teamed up to raise colorectal cancer awareness — and put some friendly pressure on Kelly — through the “Birdies for Charity” program. For every birdie Jerry Kelly made in tour competition, Exact Sciences donated $100 to the foundation to raise colorectal cancer awareness and support cancer research.
Exact Sciences also offered an additional challenge to golf fans. Visitors to its Cologuard-branded booths at PGA TOUR Champions tournaments around the country were challenged to make a hole-in-one on a miniature golf hole. For every putt made, $1 was donated to VLCF.
The bet on Kelly paid off. He posted four wins across the two seasons, more than 250 birdies each year, and consecutive top 10 finishes in the Charles Schwab Cup standings (2018, 6th; 2019, 2nd).
Together, the fans, Kelly and Exact Sciences directed more than $150,000 to VLCF over the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
